The road from a pedagogical institute to a classical university

The history of Navoiy State University begins with Navoiy State Pedagogical Institute, founded in 1992. Over more than thirty years the institute became the region's leading centre of education and trained thousands of qualified teachers for its schools and vocational colleges.

In the 2000s the institute broadened its range: new faculties and departments opened, its research capacity grew and international partnerships were established. That period laid firm ground for becoming a university.

By Resolution PQ-378 of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan of 31 October 2024, Navoiy State University was established on the basis of the institute and granted classical university status. Today the university delivers wide-ranging teaching and research across the exact, natural, social and human sciences, economics, languages and medicine.

Key milestones

• 1992 — Foundation Navoiy State Pedagogical Institute was founded, establishing higher teacher education in the region.
• The 2000s — Expansion New faculties and departments opened; research capacity and international cooperation grew stronger.
• 2024 — University status Resolution PQ-378 established Navoiy State University, with classical status, on the basis of the institute.
• Today — A classical university With 7 faculties, 28+ departments and nearly 19,500 students, it has become a multidisciplinary centre of education and research.
